Our PE 3 Year Plan.

Please see the 3 year plan for the school below. We focus on a different strand and fundamental movement skill every 2 months and ensure all classes are working on the same topic in PE.

The Daily Mile

We have been running a daily mile as a school. Well done to all the children who have been taking part and we endeavour to continue this until Easter. Thank you to the senior students who worked out that we need to run 13 laps on the pitch to run one mile.

An Exciting Visit from Leinster Rugby

Thanks to Noelly who brought in the Champions Cup and Pro 15 Cup for the children in the school to see. The children were all really excited to get an opportunity to hold the cup and get some pictures taken.

Pilates

Thank you to Zara for doing such a super job teaching pilates to 3rd - 6th classes. They are really enjoying it and have found it surprisingly challenging. Pilates is great for developing balance and core strength and once Zara explained that Beyonce, Lady Gaga and the Irish Rugby Team all do pilates everyone was definitely on board to give it a go!

Infants to 2nd classes will be doing pilates after Easter.

Active Halloween

Well done to everyone that took part in our active afternoon last Friday. We had a great day dancing, running, wrapping each other in toilet paper and dressing up. Congratulations to Patrick Cannon in 6th class who won the dance off.

Gymnastics: Developing the Gymnastics Strand

As part of our active schools process we are required to choose one area of the PE curriculum to focus on developing. As a staff we have chosen the gymnastics strand.  One way we are achieving this is by purchasing new resources to help us deliver the curriculum fully. Thank you so much to the PA who kindly bought a vaulting horse, crash mat and spring board for the school.
We have also had Zara visiting us to teach pilates to 3rd - 6th classes. Pilates is great for developing core strength and balance which are important for gymnastics. Junior infants to 2nd class will be availing of these lessons after Easter.
Finally we have arranged for a teacher from Rathdrum Gymnastics Club to visit and provide the teacher with some specific training in delivering the gymnastics strand.

Spring Glendalough Visit

2nd, 3rd and 4th classes had a super time in Glendalough on the 16th April. We took part in the Bug Safari Workshop and learned lots! Our trips to Glendalough are a great chance to get out and about and active. We did a scavenger hunt and looked for crossword clues. We also walked all around the lake area and tried to find as many bug, beetles and creepy crawlies as we could find! All in all we had a great day and really enjoyed the chance to get active while learning!
